We Have Always Been Here

A documentary short tracing Filipino American history in New Orleans through one family’s search for a lost recipe. Beginning at St. Malo — site of the earliest Filipino settlement in North America — the film follows Filipino New Orleanian artist Isa Tablan as she reconstructs her family’s history through oral history interviews, archival research, and a collective attempt to recreate a recipe lost to displacement.
