Artist: Langston Allston
New Orleans, LA
This project is about building new monuments in New Orleans. Bayou Road is home to St. Rose of Lima Church, built by Father Claude Paschal Maistre—who played a critical role in the canonization of one of New Orleans’ black Civil War heroes, Andre Cailloux. Artist Langston Allston aims to make this history visible through a mural installation that engages with the Church and the community around Bayou Road. He will begin this year with compiling research done about the history into a zine that offers further insight into the story, and will help to further shape the content of the mural.
