The NOLA Black Selfie Project began in 2015 as a series of selfies in direct response to the “selfishness of selfie culture.” I set out on a mission to take a series of “self-less selfies” and in the process hoped to educate and inspire people of all ethnic and racial backgrounds through the lens of New Orleans’ rich, deep and fascinating history and culture. The selfies were taken in front of buildings and public spaces that hold historical significance to the Black community and are accompanied by a caption sharing the
details of that historical significance.
