“Station 15”: Community Engagement and Outreach

Artist: Kira Akerman
New Orleans, LA

Last summer’s flooding brought New Orleans’ pump-station system to the forefront of people’s minds. In the short documentary Station 15, a teenager, Chasity Hunter, journeys to find out how safe her city really is. In the coming months, I will screen this film in educational and community spaces and engage children and adults in activities and a guided discussion to build water literacy. The film, discussion, and activities will help viewers relate issues of water and infrastructure to their own lives, so that they may participate in determining the city’s future.
