Dressed in the Language: Baby Doll Wearable Art, Louisiana Creole Songs, and Gulf South Ecologies

Culture Bearer Implementation Grant Recipient

Dressed in the Language: Baby Doll Wearable Art, Louisiana Creole Songs, and Gulf South Ecologies will commission Black women Baby Doll artists to create new wearable regalia and accessories rooted in Louisiana Creole song, Kouri Vini language practice, Black women’s masking traditions, and Gulf South ecologies. The project will culminate in a public visual art activation at the Historic St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, in partnership with the Jazz Generation Initiative, New Orleans. Artists will wear and display their commissioned works, discuss their materials and process, and activate the regalia through Louisiana Creole song, spoken word, and public conversation.
