[b]REACH: Adventures in Heterotopia is a Queer Black Feminist retelling of Marge Piercy’s utopian novel, Woman on the Edge of Time. Visual and performative, the work is a surrealist meditation on the interplay between confinement and freedom. Conceptualized as an intersecting series of four multimedia, temporary, site-specific installations, [b]REACH centers the voices of Black female, trans, lesbian, and gender-queer communities, whose knowledges are often invisibilized in resistance strategies. As a public art project, [b]REACH will be mounted in public locations between 2018 and 2019 and produced through collaboration, community engagement, popular education, and direct action.
