Illustrating historic and contemporary forms of property-led development and the property value of white social identity through policies of slum clearance, urban renewal, and the privatization of public services, DISPLACED—an interactive multi-media project, chronicles the institutionalization of residential segregation and discriminatory housing practices in New Orleans. Beginning with the formation of the city and its cartography of violence, DISPLACED will trace the geography of black displacement and dislocation in land-use planning, housing policy, and urban development through an interactive website combining the timeline DISPLACED: New Orleans will include archival photos, an atlas of displacement, and moments of refusal, rupture, and protests.
