The Vanishing Black Lounge

Artist: L. Kasimu Harris
New Orleans, LA

The number of lounges in black neighborhoods are shrinking rapidly. These waterholes were the social hubs of their communities for decades. I’ll document these establishments, along with their regulars, set-ups, and relationships to culture bearers. This is a multimedia project using photography, audio, writing, and video. The final presentation will be archived for public use, compiled into a book and an online exhibition with a digital bank of archival images from the lounges.
